ImpediVET
ImpediVET is a single-channel, tetrapolar bioimpedance spectroscopy (BIS) device that measures fluid status and tissue composition for veterinary applications—from laboratory research to clinic. The device has been used on species as varied as echidnas, fish, cows, crocodiles, and seals. ImpediMed provides species information for rats, mice, and horses as well as the flexibility to enter user-defined species information.

ImpediVET scans 256 frequencies between 3 kHz and 1000 kHz and uses Cole modeling with Hanai mixture theory to determine total body water, extracellular fluid and intracellular fluid. From there, fat-free mass and fat mass can be calculated on the device. Validation studies confirm that BIS correlates highly with DXA and other reference methods.
