ImpediMed SFB7: Improved Accuracy and Precision Using BIS

The SFB7 is a single channel, tetra polar bioimpedance spectroscopy (BIS) device that scans 256 frequencies between 4 kHz and 1000 kHz for the estimation of body composition in healthy individuals. The device utilises Cole modelling with Hanai mixture theory to determine total body water (TBW), extracellular fluid (ECF) and intracellular fluid (ICF) from impedance data. Fat-free mass (FFM) and fat mass (FM) are then calculated on the device. Further data analysis can be undertaken in the supporting software (supplied). Therefore, no population specific prediction equations (algorithms) are required for data analysis.

  • Bioimpedance spectroscopy - 256 discrete frequencies
  • Single channel - tetra polar configuration
  • Portable
  • Touch screen
  • Low noise data generation - no high frequency hook effect
  • Highly accurate body composition analysis
  • Readings in less than one second
  • Supplied with case, electrodes and clips, leads and software on CD-ROM

Body Composition Analysis Using BIS: Instrument Choice is Critical

Bioimpedance analysis (BIA) has become a widely accepted method for the determination of body composition due to its simplicity, speed and noninvasive nature. While BIA is recognised as one of the more reliable methods, not all devices or methods are able to achieve the level of accuracy required. The accuracy of a BIA device depends primarily on the number of frequencies at which measurements are taken. This is why the choice of instrument is so important. ImpediMed offers the ultimate in bioimpedance analysis: bioimpedance spectroscopy (BIS). BIS takes measurements at 256 different frequencies. Cole analysis and the Hanai mixture theory are used to determine body composition.
