L-Dex® U400

A Non-Invasive, Fluid-Specific Break Through: The Lymphedema Index (L-Dex®)

ImpediMed’s L-Dex® technology utilizes the characteristics of frequency dependent current flow to quantify changes in extracellular fluid in female patient’s arms. These changes can aid the surgeon, oncologist and therapist in clinically assessing for unilateral lymphedema of the arm. The L-Dex technology is specific for extracellular fluid and as fluid accumulates, the L-Dex value increases on the scale. The L-Dex number provides an instant tool for aiding in the clinical assessment of unilateral lymphedema of the arm as well as an easy way for clinicians to track extracellular fluid change in the patient's arm over time.

An increase of ten (10) L-Dex units from a patient's baseline L-Dex value represents a change of three (3) standard deviations (3SD).  This has been demonstrated in a matched normal population to be potentially clinically relevant to the medical provider in aiding in the clinical assessment of unilateral lymphedema of the arm.

For an initial assessment where no measurement history exists, a range representing 3SD either side of a normal population mean is highlighted on the L-Dex scale to aid the medical provider in their clinical assessment.  Medical providers need to be aware that a 3SD change can still occur within this range and where possible should utilize changes from baseline of 10 L-Dex units.

Note: This device is not intended to diagnose or predict lymphedema of an extremity.

The L-Dex U400: A bioelectrical impedance analyzer/monitor utilizing impedance ratios that supports the measurement of extra cellular fluid volume differences between the arms to aid in the clinical assessment of unilateral lymphedema of the arm in women. This device is not intended to diagnose or predict lymphedema of an extremity.

Lymphedema Analysis PC Software - an optional PC software package that is intended to be used only with the ImpediMed L-Dex U400 analyzer/monitor for uploading data on to the PC from the L-Dex U400, processing and analyzing of bioimpedance measurements.

The L-Dex U400 will store more than 1000 data records, which can be analyzed directly on the device or downloaded via an Ethernet connection to the supplied Impsoft™ Unilateral Lymphedema Analysis Software running on a Windows PC.

Ease of Use

  • Enter patient demographics in L-Dex software.
  • Clean electrode sites and place 3 Dual-Tab electrodes on patient.
  • Attach color-coded leads and perform measurements following on-screen instructions.
  • Results will appear on the U400 screen and can be uploaded to PC software for storage or additional analysis.

Lymphedema: Early Treatment is Critical.

Recognizing lymphedema and treating it early is the best way to potentially prevent the progression of the disorder to irreversible forms. Without appropriate and timely treatment, lymphedema can lead to pain, recurrent infection, reduced mobility and impaired function. ImpediMed has developed bioimpedance devices that, through the measurement of subclinical changes in extracellular fluid (ECF), can aid in the clinical assessment of lymphedema earlier than current methods. The L-Dex U400 has been designed specifically to aid in the preoperative clinical assessment and monitoring of unilateral lymphedema of the arms in women.

Note: This device is not intended to diagnose or predict lymphedema of an extremity.
